Choppity for Mac: the native screen recorder

Record your screen, camera and mic from a macOS app instead of a browser tab, straight into the Screen Recorder.

Choppity for Mac is a native macOS app for screen recording. It captures at full resolution, starts quickly, and keeps going through long takes without a browser tab getting in the way. Recordings go to the same Screen Recorder as browser recordings.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 or later.
  • Runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
  • At least 2 GB of free disk space to start a recording.

Install it

  1. On your Mac, open Screen recorder and click Download Mac app. You'll also be offered the app whenever you click New recording on a Mac.
  2. Or download it directly: cdn.choppity.com/downloads/mac/Choppity.dmg.
  3. Open the DMG, drag Choppity to Applications, and launch it. Sign in through your browser when asked.

What it records

  • Screen at native pixels, at 30 or 60 fps.
  • Camera, up to 4K at 30 fps.
  • Microphone.
  • System audio isn't captured yet.

The pointer is recorded separately from the screen, so the editor can redraw it sharp and highlight your clicks. If you grant the optional Accessibility permission, Zoom on clicks can frame the element you clicked.

Record and open in Choppity

  1. Choose your screen, camera and microphone and start recording.
  2. Footage uploads while you record. Anything waiting to upload is kept on disk, so long sessions don't use up memory.
  3. Stop the recording. The app shows Saved to Choppity with an Open in Choppity button, which opens the recording in the Screen Recorder.

Mac app or browser recorder?

Both land in the same place and open in the same editor. Use the Mac app for higher quality and reliability on long recordings. Use the browser recorder on Windows, Linux, or a Mac you can't install apps on.
